Sports l l Advertisements 12 UW-Parkside has a new chan- cellor on the way- Dr. John Keating. The UW System Board of Regents named him chancellor on March 6. He will begin work July I. Since 1994, Keating, 59, has been provost at Alaska-Fairbanks. He received his PH.D. in social psychology from Ohio State University in 1972. He was a faculty member, vice-provost, and dean at the University of Washington- Seattle and branch campuses. UW System Board of Regents President Katharine Lyall, who with a special Regent committee recommended Keating, said, "Dr. Keating has excellent academic credentials, a record of suc- cessful institutional leadership and a strong desire to lead UW-Parkside into the 21st Century. He is committed to working with faculty, staff, and students to extend UW-Parkside as a resource for teaching and service throughout Kenosha, Racine. and the surrounding region." (Quote appeared in the Communique, the faculty and staff newsletter.) Until Keating starts, there is a new interim chancellor- Vice Chancellor John Ostheimer. Interim chancellor Gordon Lamb left in late March. Eleanor Smith, the last chancellor, retired in 1997. Spring Open House Festival Joey Buschmann The days are slipping away faster and faster and the Spring Open House Festival is right around the cor- ner. On Saturday, April 25 from lOam until 2pm, all of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside will unite at this fes- tival. This event is open to all stu- dents, staff, faculty, prospective students, family, friends, and the community at large. It will be a chance for every aspect of the University to come out and display, exhibit and present their pro- grams and accomplishments. Those not directly involved in presenting can learn and witness first hand the atmosphere and people that make UW-Parkside such a positive institution. The Festival will also be a great opportunity to see what the departments, programs, clubs and organizations are all about and to really meet and communi- cate with a variety of students, staff and faculty. This opportunity doesn't come up often, so I urge everyone to pass the word and really help make this event all it can be. One of the highlights of the Festival is the Alumni Association's Tuition Raffle. A lucky person will win one year free tuition. There will also be raffles with prizes such as a year free Campus Housing Parking, a semester of free Campus Wide Parking, gift certifi- cates from area restaurants and retailers and much, much more. To top all of this off, WIlL (95.1) radio station will broad- cast live from the event. Amanda Bulgrin Editor-in-Chief Professor Alan Shucard of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside English Department was inducted into the Southeastern Wisconsin Educators Hall of Fame on March 27. Members of the Educators Hall of Fame are exemplary educators from the Racine and Kenosha area. They are recognized for their impact on education and lifelong career of commitment. Criteria for receiving this prestigious award include: 'Local recognition by students and par- ents as an excellent teacher *National or statewide recognition as a contributor to education *Participation in community and educa- tional organizations 'Development or support of worthwhile programs in schools *Involvement in education in southeast- ern Wisconsin for fifteen years or more Shucard was nominated to the hall of fame by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside English Department Chair, Walter Graflin. He hopes that his will be the start of recognition for the outstanding educators in the English Department. Graflin stated, "Professor Shucard's fame is in his students, they know who he is and respect him." Upon arrival, officers found no such substance in use, however, material found at the scene was tested and found to be marijuana.
