Does thiS society focus too much on sex, using it for everything from advertisements about food to campaigns run by presidential ~andidates; or, not enough when It comes to actual matters of life, home. and scbool? This subject gets plastered all over the media. and yet is SO rarely even talked about. This cannot only confuse children and teenagers. but also adults, particularly the College_age adults. "When did you learn about sex?" "Did rOll learn about sex?" "Was the Illformation you were given accurate?" "Who told you? Were discussions encouraged?" "Do you feel you were ready to know?" "How do you feel when sex is talked about?" These are just a few of the questions that seem significant when one broaches the topic of sex. Some people choose to have sex, others choose to. . abstain from all sexual activity, a select few put up safe sexua~ boundaries, while many permit their individual societies to choose for them. The c~o.ice of whether or not one partICipateS in sexual activities can greatly impact one's life. Some feel the need to engage in sexual inter~ourse. others are fine pleasunng themselves, and now the Internet has brought a whole new aspect into the realm of sex. How great of an impact does this have on the lives of college students? The Ranger News is going in-depth and "out on a lim~" to find answers to some questions college students may have, dispel common. yet incorrect. myths and learn ~bout. the reality of sex for the University of Wisconsin - Parks ide student body. There will be a survey given out tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 14 on the Union Bridge. Also, surveys can be found in The Ranger News of~ce Wylie 0139C. There will be a completed-survey box, placed outside Wylie DI39C. The Ranger News office. Everyone. (including stude?ts. ~rofessors, staff. and administration) please pick up, fill out. and return a survey to The Ranger News. so these articles can be geared directly to the UW-Parkside Division 2 Great Lakes regional to qualify for nationals. Tbey coasted in with 130 total tearn points to earn a third place finish. The regional was held at SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday, Nov. 3. Individually, the top fifteen runners were given an all region title. Three Rangers earned this award. Leading Parkside was Jessica Lamb who finished second out of 153 with a time of 21 minutes and 32 seconds for a 6k course. Also in the top 15 was a pair of seniors. Naomi Fulton finished fourth with a time of 21 :39 and teammate Valerie Hubbard finished fourteenth with a time of 22: 14. Two freshmen, Hope: Christie and Courtney Zimmerman. rounded off the points totals finishing in 48th and 64th place. Nationals will be held on Nov. J7 at Missouri Southern located in Joplin. On the second page of our paper, underneath the staff list, it states the following: "Each person may take one newspaper per issue date. Extra newspapers can be purchased for $1 apiece. Newspapers can be taken at a first come, first serve basis, meaning that once they are gone, they are gone. We work on the honor system, but violators will be prosecuted for theft. Faculty members and student organizations who wish to use The Ranger News in classrooms should consult the editor-in-chief to reserve however many free copies they wish to use." My suggestion to those who wish to use our newspaper for purposes other than reading is that you come down to The Ranger News office and pick up some old issues. We have piles upon piles of old issues stacked up in our back room. Although we need to keep some for our records, portfolios and advertising, the rest usually wind up in recycling. We have issues from last semester even, that deserve a good home, and your artistic needs might just be the best reincarnation they can achieve. In the future, please do not take new issues from the news stands. Those issues are meant to be read and if our stands arc suddenly empty, there might not be any more issues to put out. Tbat stand will remain empty until the next Tuesday, when we do distribution. Also, we have been keeping track of our circulation records each week. We count how many issues are left over in the stands and compare that number to the number of issues distributed. If students are taking extra issues, the count we have for our circulation will not be accurate. Please respect our efforts to get the news out to students and use old issues for any project you have which does not involve actually reading the paper. I would hope that you could use the classified section of your local newspaper for your papier mache projects in the future. To me, the paper is my baby, and you are killing my baby each time you don't give her the time of day to sit down and actually read ber. All right,l will admit that maybe that is taking it a little bit too far. Nevertheless, please respect your campus, your news staff, and your news.
