New Solar System few years back, the entire UW-System switched over 10 a program called Solar, The PeopleSoft company has made a new version to which the entire UW-System must to conform - Solar System v. 8.9. This upgrade is going to-take place right after the New Year before the spring semester begins. It is becoming known as a full "Solar eclipse," Jan. 4, due to the fact that the system will be shut down from the end of business and . will not be back live until Jan. 10. Since the system will not be available to staff or students, the fall semester grades are going to be available from Dec. 18 through end of business on Jan. 4, 2007; though, they all need to be completed by noon on Dec, 27. Students need to be registered by the end of December 10 ensure that they can get into the classes that they want and/or need. Students registering in Winterim courses should also be signed up by the end of December because it will be hard to add students after the process has started. In one of the past two Talent Night, there was a guest band brought in from Milwaukee that went by the name of Trio Records. During that show, Tamykka Lamb. a freshmen and part of the Parkside Activitie Board said, "It was off the chain." She also said that the show had a turnout of 100 to 150 people. This Talent Night was a little different because of the low turnout of students. Duane Johnson, president of PAB said, "We bave a good time no matter what." "Talent Tuesday is all about having fun and letting the studems showcase their talent in a comfortable environment," said Johnson. With 18 points to lead all Ranger scorers, junior guard Kayla Ming converted five of her eight three-point attempts. Their only loss came in an 80-69 overtime defeat against the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday, Nov. 17. Their opponent for this past Saturday, Nov. 25, carried away a loss, as the men Rangers took down the Central State Marauders of Wilberforce, Ohio, in a 92-78 final. Taking a page from the women, the men also began their home opener by putting six Rangers into double digits. Junior guard Kyle Clark made six of his seven three-point attempts to go with his nine of 16 field goal attempts, while teammate Tyrone Deacon led the Rangers with seven assists and made 13 of 18 free throws to count as the majority of his 19 total points. The NIH reveals tbat calcium supplements are the third highest moneymaking supplement, bringing in about $87 million in sales each year. The two most common forms of calcium supplement' are calcium carbonate and calcium citrate. Calcium carbonate is the most common and provides more calcium, but it can cause gas from its difficulty to be digested. Calcium citrate is typically less expensive and easier to digest, but 1,000 mg of citrate only has 210 mg of calcium, whereas the carbonate form has 400 mg in a 1,000 mgdose. Anyone taking or planning to take a calcium supplement should be aware that no more than 500 mg should be taken at one time, because as the amount of calcium taken increases the amount that is absorbed decreases. This includes calcium from food as well. Not enough calcium is bad, but on the other hand, too much calcium can interfere with absorption of other minerals and, rarely, Can cause kidney problems, among other things. No more than 2,500 mg of calcium a day should be ingested. The NIH recommends spreading calcium supplements and calcium-rich foods throughout the day. The first came in a 72-54 win over the Lady Eagles of Robert Morris College' on Tuesday. Nov. 21, as the Rangers played this contest at Loyola's Gentile Center. Newly acquired senior Kari Score shot 64 percent from the field, and she hit both of her three-point attempts along with ·four of six free throws to tally 24 total points for UW- Parkside. Many Americans do not get the recommended daily dose of 1,000-1,200 mg of calcium, with the NIH-reporting that 55 percent of men .and 78 percent of women over the age of 20 fall short of this ideal. Low calcium intake can result in the bone disease osteoporosis. which reduces bone density and leaves bones fragile. Women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis, but both sexes are susceptible to the disease. The body is able to remodel bones and add mass to them only up to age 30; therefore. the more calcium bones have by this age, the slower the process of natural, age-related bone degeneration. Calcium is absorbed in the digestive tract where vitamin D aids absorption, and it is naturally excreted from the body in sweat and urine, but other things can eause further calcium loss. Alcohol interferes with absorption, and pbosphorous, found in carbonated drinks, has been linked to calcium depletion. The most common food source to contain calcium is dairy products, but these ;u:e not the only sources for calcium.
