Incoming students used to I be able to select an option when I setting up their UW-Parkside \ e-mail account that would allow them to automatically forward any e-mails sent to their UW- Parkside account to their primary e-mail account. Due to some incidents in the past, however, this automatic e-mail forwarding option is notavailable anymore. There have been many cases in the world that have dealt with identity theft and worries ov~r information security. By taking away the automatic e- mailing option from all incoming students, Uw-Parkside can keep track of all the e-mails that are being sent and received. This prevents the chance of some unwanted intrusions within the e-mailing system. However, continuing students who selected the automatic forwarding option when they opened their UW- Parkside e-mail account will still be receiving the forwarded e- mails. This option was not taken away from continuing students. What else has been taken away from the e-mail system? According to Ann Marie Durso, it has only been "the automatic forwarding that is being phased out to allow for receipt and storage of e-mail messages on the ParksideMail Servers so we can confirm delivery and recover messages in the event that [they] are accidentally deleted or lost." To further prove why some heavy duty management was needed on the e-mailing system. UW-Parkside's Computer Network Services has taken note of (be e-mail trends at UW- discontinued at the end of the spring 2006 semester. This process could be a little confusing for those who don't know what the automatic forwarding is all about. For example, I have a UW-Parkside e-mail address (houdeOOO@uwp. edu). I also have a primary e-mail account at home (watchit@wi.rr.com). When I first started at UW-Parkside 1 set up my UW-Parkside e- ' mail and selected the automatic forwarding option. If one of my professors e-mailed me at UW-Parkside, then the UW- Parkside e-mail address would automatically send it to my home e-mail account. I could then open and read every single e-mail that I received from either account on just the one at home. which is the main e-mail account that I check.
