Each organization is search- ing for ample and efficient space to house their equipment and meetings. According to Dean Stephen McLaughlin, the space in Molinaro Level 4 has been granted to WPRS, but it still subject to change. An October 10th date has been set to find adequate room for PAW. Conflicting views still stand in the issue of the space problem. According to Student Organizations Council (SOC) secretary Teri Jacobson. PAW was an inactive member of SOC at the end of last semester. Their lack of attendance at SOC meetings caused PAW to lose their budget. Jacobson also stat- ed that proper notification was sent to PAW. PAW President. Andrew Kenth on the other hand, responded that he was not informed of this information and that Paw was an active club, raising $2000 over the semester. One opinion of the Facilities Planning Committee is that there is a stronger academic link between the radio station and academics than the Wargamers and academics. Because the space is in an academic building, this plays a large role in the decision. The radio station will be directly associated with the communications department and hopefully broadcasting classes will be offered in correlation with the station, and PAW is associated with the history department. . Another factor in the decision of room placement is of cost and conve- nience. Student funding will have to provide $80 per foot of wire connecting the station to the antenna, the higher the room, the more cost effective the station will be. Another issue is the need for an outside entrance, which Molinaro L4 offers. PAW and WPRS are willing to work the issue out. An offer was made by PAW to share the space; however, due to the amount of people that would be sharing the space, Risk Management rejected this offer. This is yet one more reason that the station would be better suited for Moln L4.· The-chance of risk is much lower with one or two people in the room at a time than the larger group of people that game in the PAW room. President of PAW stated that the. club was simply looking for a room of equal size. "There are several members of PAW that are interested in the station, so it is not an anti-radio situation," stated President Andrew Kenth, "we just want an acceptable room." Stephanie Hess, assistant station manager of WPRS, agreed that it was not a club vs. club debate. "We never pushed for the room. We hope that the Wargamers will be able to use our sta- tion by broadcasting a show on the air," stated Hess. She added that the faster this issue be cleared up, the sooner WPRS will be broadcasting. , Students playing games in the Union Recreation Center. Assistant Chancellor leaving Parkside Rebecca Vankervoorde News Editor Dr. Gary Grace recently accept ed the position as vice chancellor for str dent affairs at the U~versity of Missou: - St. Louis. Dr. Grace has served as the assistant chancellor for student services that past II years at UW-Parkside. During his II years here at' UW-Parkside, Grace helped to create tl student information system, a system that handles admissions, registration an many other student related functions. I also established an effective student leadership program. "--- -""- PSGACorner Coleen Tartaglia Editor-in-chief This week, Pro-Tempore Zac Pawlowski introduced Resolution # 97 B~I, a new treasurer was appointed and a re-election for the senate seats because of a technicality. Resolution # 97 B-1 was intro- duced in the best interest of the ""dents at UW-Parkside. It contains a lot of tech- nical jargon, but it is basically this: if for any reason, funds need to be taken out of any type of budget in PSGA, a typed copy of the allocated funds must be given to every mem ber in attendance at the meetings. The next week it will be voted on whether or not the money will be withdrawn from the budget. In the event of an emergency, this waiting peri- od may be waned." An emergency is defined as, "An action that is absolutely necessary to the continued existence of PSGA .... [arid] determined by a unani- mous vote of the senate." Newly appointed Treasurer DeShon Jackson has been at UW- Parkside since 1994, is a graduating senior, a history minor, president of his fraternity "Iota Phi Theta", is Seargent at Arms at BSU and a member of the Stallion Study Club. Because of a technicality, last week's nominees were voted on again. The five nominees from last week were in the running this week, and with the re- voting, Chris Leipski and Coleen Tartaglia were elected as spring senators, and there was a two-way tie between Luis Benevoglienti and Camel ius Russel. The deciding vote for the tie will be held this Friday. Vice-President Corey Mandley apologized for any inconvenience this technicality may have caused anyone. Problems with Parkside's mission statement Rebecca Vankervoorde News Editor When this years new mission statement came up f9r approval, ques- tions were raised as to why past state- ments concerning managerial and tech- nological areas were being dropped. The mission statement outlines the goals and values to guide the school in serving the public. "The current statement says the region is adapting to a changing indus'tri- aI-technological society," said George Perdikaris, professor and chairman of the computer science and engineering , department. "It says the university .. offers professional and preprofessional programs. It's good to say we are offer- ing the opportunity to get jobs in those areas." On September 23, a revised mission statement approved by the University Planning Council was sent to each of Parkside's four governance groups for further approval.
