In-state tuition per ernester is $1,261.45. Tuition per ernester for out-of-state students is $3,993.45. The cholarship will represent a a ings of $4,000 a year for our-of- tate tudents. The rem issions are renew- able for a maximum of four on ecutive years if students maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average and maintain full-time enrollment. The pro- gram is open to new freshman or new entering transfer stu- dent. Proof of state residency i required. Only 100 tuition scholar- ships will be offered. Interested applicants should make fomnal application to the university as soon as possible to insure consideration for the scholarships. Criteria for consideration of entering freshman are either a minimum ACT composite score of22 or high school class rank in the top 35 percent or higher; full-time enrollment status, earning a minimum of 30 credits per academic year; and a commitment to reside in an on-campus residence hall, unless over the age of 22, mar- ried or commute a distance less than 40 miles. (SAT scores must total 1010 or higher.) Entering transfer students with less than 16 college cred- its must have a college OPA of at least 2.5 and have ranked in the top 35 percent of their high school graduating class or have an ACT composite score of 22 or higher. Those with 16 or more college credits must have a college OPA of at least 2.5. All transfer students must be enrolled full-time and earn a minimum of 30 credits per aca-. demic year. Transfer students who have attended another University of Wisconsin four- year institution within the past five years are not eligible. Then liv- ing in the new residence hall would be for you. There are many benefits to living on cam- pus. The new Ranger Hall will offer students many conve- niences by having a setting close to classes and university facilities. The benefits of living on campus are plentiful. There are no monthly utility. bills. The long distance telephone calls are inexpensive with no month- ly service charge. Basic cable will be offered in the TV lounges and in each room. Residents will have access to an in-hall computer lab and also a computer network access in each room. For studying conveniences there will be study rooms. The hall is also located by nearby recre- ational facilities. One of the most attractive benefits will be no parking hassles because the hall will have its own parking lot. The rooms in the Ranger Hall are designed to have two students. The rooms will be furnished with beds that can be used as bunks, twin beds or lofts. The rooms will also have mattresses, desks, chairs and dressers. Rooms will have dou- ble wide closets and carpeted floors. There are also some rooms that will be academic intensive which will allow some students a quieter place to live than the other rooms. There are also many extras by living on campus. Steve Wallner, assistant director of residence life, said) "It can increase a student's chance of success in college." He also mentioned, "It can heighten a student's overall uni- versity education and experi- ence." Other extras would be leadership opportunities such as resident advisors (RA) or resi- dence hall coordinators (RHC). Students can also be part of the Resident Hall Association (RHA). The residence hall will also make it easy to meet new people and friends. However, in a surprise tum of events, the University of Wisconsin-Parks ide may have cleared the final hill last week When the State Building Commission approved funding for the new field house. The commission had wanted UW-Parkside to raise half of the six million dollars required for the new facility, but settled on an 80-20 split. That left UW-Parkside with $1.2 million to raise from , student fees and donations. The new building will bring a large field house to allow UW- Parks ide to host concerts, major sporting events, and graduations. The field house would also provide a 200-meter indoor track, new weight room, additional basketball and racquetball courts, and a media room among other things. Along with the new dorms and the new food court, the expan- sion could help erase UW-Parkside's label as a "commuter school" and establish them as a powerhouse in all NCAA Division II sports. "I'll finally be able to work out without the side effects of frost- bite," said John Nunn, freshman. After an initial approval two years ago, the state legislature then divided UW-Parkside's expansion program into two phases while only approving the first phase. In effect, the decision took all the air out of the expansion project. Once again, Athletic Director Lenny Klaver came through in a meeting with Gov.
