Education Dean Shade
ing has been done" about
Shade, stating that the
administration has ignored
. complaints about her.
Regarding the whistler-
blower complaint, Waller
indicated that there are
"money damages" involved
and said, "I wonder how
much they can afford to be
awful."
Beth Adelson, a former
Parkside Education student
,
stated, "Personally dealing
with Dr. Shade ...I never had
any problems.
"I'm disturbed and con-
cerned by the loss of so many
wonderful professors ...there
are great professors who are
now gone. And I wonder why
these good 'teachers are leav-
ing," Adelson said.
Adelson also spoke about
the decision not to send stu-
dent teachers to rural
Kenosha and Racine schools
"They talk about diversity, '
but they're only sending stu-
dents to one kind of school."
"Some of my best experi-
ences were in schools with
only ten percent minority,"
Adelson said.
"I believe students that are
going to be teachers ...need to
see multiple types," said
Gale Ryczek, Superintendent
ofthe Bristol Consolidated
School district. Ryczek indi-
cated that he had been told
by Shade that their schools
were not "multi culturally
diverse" and student teach-
ers would no longer be
placed there.
"Our culture is diverse,"
Ryczek said, "we have kids
that speak a number of dif-
ferent languages in their
homes."
Despite the placement
decision, Ryczek states that
Shade "called and wanted to
know why I hadn:t contacted,
her." Otherwise, Ryczek said,
"My dealings with them
(Education Department)
have been fantastic."
Some current Education
Department students have
stated their dissatisfaction
with Shade, but asked not to
be interviewed. Many
expressed fear that speaking
against Shade would lead to
retaliation and possible
expulsion from the Teacher
Education Program .
A male student who pre-
ferred not to be identified
,
described meeting with
Shade in an impromptu
meeting. "She threw a curve
ball at me," he said. He
states that he was informed
his GPA was not adequate
for the program and that
