Studentsat the University  of Wisconsin-Parkside    will be "hitting"  the&#13;

in preparation  for final  exams  in the upcoming  week.  The&#13;
finalday of regular classes  is Friday,  May  6.  Final  exams  will be&#13;
givenMay 7-13.&#13;
UW-Parkside students  will be tucked  away  around  campus&#13;
beginningMay 9 preparing  for finals and finishing  class projects.&#13;
Themost popular  study  spots  include  the library,  empty  classrooms&#13;
andthe various lounge  areas  through  the campus.   Weather&#13;
pennitling,students  will combine  "sun  and study"  at the various&#13;
picnictables and grassy  areas  around  campus.   UW-Parkside&#13;

graduates at commencement&#13;

Rep.    Mark&#13;
Neumann    will  be  the  featured&#13;
speaker  at  the  University's    26th&#13;
commencement&#13;
on    Sunday,&#13;
Mayl4.&#13;
Neumann,   a Janesville&#13;
Republican.&#13;
was  elected   to  the&#13;
First  Congressional    District  seat&#13;
in November,  defeating  Democrat&#13;
Peter  Barca.   The district  includes&#13;
Racine,  Kenosha,   Walworth   and&#13;
Rock  counties,  and  part  of Green&#13;
County.&#13;
The  University   had  originally&#13;
invited  Fred  Harvey  Harrington,&#13;
former  president  of the University&#13;
of&#13;
Wisconsin,&#13;
to&#13;
be&#13;
commencement&#13;
speaker.&#13;
Harrington    died  of  a stroke   on&#13;
April   8  in  Madison.&#13;
As  UW&#13;
president&#13;
in   the    1960's,&#13;
he&#13;
oversaw   development&#13;
of  UW-&#13;
Parks  ide   and   hired    its   first&#13;
chancellor,  Irvin G. Wyllie.&#13;
More   than   370  students    are&#13;
eligible&#13;
to&#13;
take&#13;
part&#13;
In&#13;
commencement,&#13;
including   May&#13;
and   August&#13;
graduates.&#13;
The&#13;
ceremony   will  be held  at 2pm  in&#13;
the  gymnasium    of  the  Physical&#13;
Education  Building.&#13;

The    Johnson's&#13;
Wax    Fund&#13;
Scholars    Program    will  prOVide&#13;

economically&#13;
disadvantaged&#13;
students  of color  enrolled  full-ume&#13;
in   degree&#13;
programs&#13;
at   UW-&#13;
Parkside.  Grants  are renewable  for&#13;
up to four years.&#13;
Initiated  in  1991, the Johnson's&#13;
Wax  Fund  Scbolars   Program  has&#13;
provided  support  for two  Johnson&#13;
scholars  each  fall.  Beginning  with&#13;
September   1995, the program  will&#13;
support  three entering  freshman  as&#13;
well  as  six  continuing   students.&#13;
This   year,   those   scholars    wbo&#13;
began  their   studies   in  1991  are&#13;
expected  to graduate.&#13;
"It's&#13;
a   fine&#13;
example&#13;
of&#13;
cooperati   ve&#13;
efforts&#13;
of    the&#13;
university  and The Johnson's  Wax&#13;
Fund  working  together  on  a goal&#13;
we  share,"   said  Marilyn   Foster&#13;

university   relations.    "Providing&#13;
educational&#13;
opportunities&#13;
for&#13;
students   of  color  from  southeast&#13;
Wisconsin  is central&#13;

Of the three  scholarship  awards,&#13;
two  give  preference    to  students&#13;
who  major  in science  or business.&#13;
The  other  has&#13;
no&#13;
academic  major&#13;
attached.  The  $50,000  donation  to&#13;
the  Physical   Education   Building&#13;
project&#13;
is   the   largest&#13;
single&#13;
donation   to  date  for  that  project.&#13;
Kirk  called   the  Johnson's&#13;

Fund  gift  "clearly    a  leadership&#13;

Education&#13;
Building  project,  divided  into  two&#13;
phases,  will  remodel   and  expand&#13;
the current  structure.  Phase  I will&#13;

of  space  in  the  existing   Physical&#13;
Education   Building,   particularly&#13;
classroom    space   and  locker   and&#13;
