budget cut meeting&#13;
with University&#13;
Committee Officers,&#13;
Academic Staff&#13;
Committee Officers,&#13;
PSGA Officers,&#13;
Deans,  Directors,&#13;
and Department&#13;
Chairs.&#13;
Discussed&#13;
were the principles&#13;
which would&#13;
determine how to&#13;
make appropriate&#13;
cuts and the process&#13;
by which changes&#13;
and cuts would be&#13;
Twobiologyprofessors, Chong-maw Chen&#13;
andThomas Quayle were awarded $140,000&#13;
in&#13;
research grant money.&#13;
C.M.Chen's grant of $90,000 was awarded&#13;
I&#13;
bythe Cooperative State Research Service of&#13;
theU.S.Department ofAgriculture. The&#13;
grantmoneywill support research on the&#13;
I&#13;
planthormone cytokinin, and runs through&#13;
September,1996.&#13;
ThomasQuayle's grant was for $50,000.&#13;
Theprojectwhich is being funded is Titled,&#13;
, 'Structure/Function ofa Maize Palindromic&#13;
DNARepeat and Accociation Binding&#13;
Proteins." The money was awarded by the&#13;
Department ofAgriculture and runs through&#13;
September1996.&#13;

pooltryout for the United&#13;

"Marlene has done a&#13;
marvelous job at keeping&#13;
this campus safe for&#13;
everybody," said Student&#13;
Senator Bruce Rocco,&#13;
referring to the University&#13;
ofWisconsin-Parks ide Police Officer,Marlene Schlecht.&#13;
Schlecht received an award on Nov 17from the Parkside&#13;
student body for her outstanding job as a law enforcement&#13;
officer.&#13;
OfficerSchlecht has been on the policeforce at Parkside for&#13;
12years. She has helped organize the Safewalk program,&#13;
actively trained women in sexual assault prevention and this&#13;
year will help educate the UW-Parkside community about&#13;
pepper spray.&#13;
In&#13;
the past, Schlecht has also worked with the Kenosha&#13;
County Sheriff Department in regards to a rape which&#13;
occurred on WoodRoad in Spring, 1993.&#13;
Marlene has represented Wisconsin at an international&#13;
Crime  Prevention   Practitioners&#13;
Association    conference.&#13;
"She's not only involved on a campus level, she's very active&#13;
in&#13;
the community  as well,&#13;
«&#13;
said Rocco.&#13;
Senator Roccowrote the resolution that requested the&#13;
award for OfficerSchlecht. He then proposed the resolution&#13;
to the senate where it was passed by a unanimous vote. The&#13;
money for the award was allocated from the student&#13;
government budget.&#13;
