The Miss USA contest brings together young women across the country in search of "the girl next door' who could become the next Miss USA. The pageant consists of evening gown, swimsuit, and interview competitions to establish each contestant's poise and confidence. Erica became interested in.the pageant when an application was mailed to her. "They reviewed my application and sent me the information, saying that they felt I would be a terrific contestant," Sanchez said,"and I set to work inunediately to raise $750 in funding from different sponsors in the Kenosha area." (One ofher proud sponsors is Target stores.) Erica is honored to be chosen as a beauty contestant, and she hopes that it will be a good experience and enjoyable as well. Erica's background has prepared her for this challenge. She is a model who has done work for JC Penney's and other department stores, and she is also a trained Shakespearian actress. Sanchez plays classical piano and has had many years of training in ballet. She also is an EnglisbIDramatic Arts major, currently rehearsing for the U.W.Parkside play, "Wilder, Wilder, Wilder," and she works in The Writing Center here on campus.
