Ole Otto, Student government President, Uw-whltewater, is also vyingfor the UC president position. The UC presidency is a one year tenn with a $10,000 salary. Presi- dential elections will be held on March30 at UW-Superior. - £SGA Housing discussed not they would be able to justify asking for a computer. "I'm not sure we'll be able to do that, since we did already have funding for a computer this year. and. we gave it back to SUFAC," he said. Tunks said, "I think SUFAC un- derstands that one of the key rea- sons we gave that money back ~ to help out with the shortfall this past year. That certainly wasn't our way of saying we don't need a com- puter." . Approval was given for Jackie Sutherlin to join the Senate. During her president's report, Terry Tunks discussed the idea of ~n-campushousing. Tunks said, "My Intentions are to go to SUF AC at some point next week with a com- plete rationale and ask them for rnoney from reserves so we can ob- lain a computer. I really think this ~ll be a vital move for the senate. In terms of stepping up productiv- Ity." "That's not completely accurate due to • budgetary shortfall in the Fall of 1984. But increases In budgets have not been extreme and there have been substantial de- creases," she said. A shortfall between $30,000 and $40,000 plagued SUFAC early this fall. Hensiak said that the shortfall occured because the student projec- tion was higher than the actual stu- dent enrollment. Enrollment was low because the economy improved causing more students to go away to school, feels Hensiak. To ollset the shortfall, SUF AC asked each group, which had re- quested funds last year, to "put a little hack in the pot." Hensiak said, "People were exceptionally responsive. Almost every group gave something hack so almost the entire shortfall amount was made up." Hensiak feels that there has been greater budgetary awareness and understanding this year which she attributes to the shortfall. But not everyone was under- standing and cooperative. Hensiak received several threatening phone calls concerning the posibilities of cutting budgets during the shortfall "One caller said, 'There is going to be hell 10 pay' if their budget was cut." Hensiak: is sure she knows who the threats came from. but she refused to name the assail- ant, and she looks back on the situ- ation laughingly. "SUFAC didn't look at the budgets with gleaming silver scis- sors in our hands. I was astounded that someone would feel so fright- ened about giving back parts of their budget. Yet, I understand that budgeting can be very emotional and personal - it could be some-- ones job, or their entire mcorne. an the hands of six committee mem- bers," said Hensiak. Health Center, Child Care and Phy Ed, etc. A segregated fee is the $164.50 assess- ed per students per semester In- cluded in tuition payments. Budgets were approved by the PSGA Senate on Friday and were submitted for approval to the Chan- eellor and David Holley, Controller. The budgets will then be sent to the Board of Regents for final ap- proval. SUF AC is made up of six student Senators and two student-at-large seals, although the committee cur- rently is not full. While I was on 'the phone with the Sheriff's De- partment in Greenquist the fire alanns started going off. 1 had no idea if there was an actual emer- gency or if it was only a test. . Eventually, a Security person ar- rived with a key and opened the PSGA door, but a lot of time was wasted because of a Security SNAFU. Blame also should go out to Pbysical Plant. wbo was suppos- ed to make the keys. and the Stu- dent Services, who failed to pass on the names of office key holders and' the number of keys needed for stu- dent offices. This problem could have easily been avoided if keys would have been issued to key holders BE- FORE the locks were changed, or if Security personnel would be around to open offices when requir- ed, like in this situation. Barbara Johnson To the Editor: Talk about campus foul-ups, this is one (or the record books! Mon- day morning at 7:25 a.m., my hus- band and I arrived on campus. WIlen we tried to enter the building through the doors at WLLC by the Coffee Shoppee we found the doors were still locked. The campus offi- cially opens at 7 a.m .• so why was the door locked? Well, we went up, around and down in Comm Arts to get to the PSGA office. My husband, who is PSGA vice-president, tried to open the PSGA office door with his key. but it did not work. Apparently. Campus Security lost a master key ring quite a while ago and are just now replacing all the locks. So I called Secunty to come and open the PSGA office door, since they were the only ones who had the keys. The phone rang at least 10 times before someone answered it, and it wasn't answered by Security. but by the Kenosha County Sher- ill's Department. When the lights came up. some of those same people were anx- iously looking around to see who saw them, and who they could see. 1 think the. film, and other por- nography, for some serves' as a way to deal with the emotional, sensi- tive and embarrassing issue of sex. I really can't see what, harm films like "Insatiable" can do. If they are made by consenting adults and seen by consenting adults, the choice should be left up to the indio vidual. Personally, during "Insati- able".1 kept waiting for something different to happen. It didn't. And, while "I was 'waiting, a line from a "MASH" show popped into my head that sums up the whole expe- rience pretty well. "Why all the preoccupation with sex,"som~ne asked B,J. "Lack of occupation with sex," 'he-answered. ,Bingo. In short, even when considered as a porn film, ."Insatiable" was not well-crafted. On the more positive side, there was no real violence against women in the film. Sex, yes. Violence, 'no. The crux of the "story" involved a woman who simply could not have her sexual needs fulfilled. This story line pleased me a little. It was refreshing to see a woman seeking her own sexual satisfaction. This is one of the main aims of the femi- nist movement, and while the film is no masterpiece, at least it con- tained a little seed of progress. What actually interested me the most was the' fact that most of the audience at the show 1 attended was male .. During the film;' some vocal viewers showed just how much they were enjoying the Iilm. That was w!Ule the. film Was play- hy Karl DixoD Writer states he's not a 'slaue holder' After two weeks of discussing pornography with almost everyone that I know, I swallowd my femi- nist pride, and against the wishes of my mother went to see "Insati- able" because 1 feU that I couldn't form an opinion about something I knew nothing about. I left the film wondering what all the fuss was about. After enduring what had to be one of the most boring films I have ever seen, my desire to have anything further to do with por- nography was definitely satiated. The acting in the film (that re- quired dialogue) was laughable. The scenery (not to mention costu- mes) was bland and easily forgetta- ble. The editing and the pacing could have been done more profes- sionally by a first-year film student. is her right? Can we expect that a mother of five who doesn't want or can't afford another child to prop- erly care and raise the unwanted child? I think we already know about the effects of neglect and frustration. especiaUy by the time one reaches adolescence. Each per. son has personal reasons which they feel are legitimate. Let God be the judge not man. Who's to say what we've missed. Mr. Bliss. I find your parallel be- tween myself (and others who bold my view) and the Nazis and slave- holders to be offensive. Mr. Bliss, nobody gave me (or others) the rigbt to impose my views on "the 15 million unborn." Nobody gave you the right either. it's the individual's right. I do not think it's a moral issue either, it's a philosophical issue. At what point IS the unborn a thinking and feeling human being? I do agree that an unborn child is genetically capable of developing into adulthood but reality seems to always intercede our idealistic fantasies. Who is going to love the haby between a rapist and his victim? Would you want your wife to carry around the reminder of her rape for nine months? Bock, has accepted an appointment as Special Assistant to the UW-Sys- tern President for Economic Devel- opment.
